Nothing Is Wasted

April 20, 2017

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those

who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

Romans 8:28

It is hard to appreciate difficulty when it is happening. I was reading about what led Jason Gray to write his song, Nothing is Wasted. He said that hope is painful. When the pain is great, it’s easier to shut down and become numb. He said that’s okay because there are stages of grieving. I thought through some of the more painful times of coming to terms with where Nathan is. I realized there had been times when the pain was more than I could handle in the moment and I was so grateful for this group of people who were praying for me and my son. That you were believing for Nathan’s return when I was struggling. You were praying. Most of the time I would say I live from a place of faith and hope. But like Jason says, “Hope is painful.” It is painful to hope for their return and trust God to do what only He can do, and do it in His time. And wait. And pray. And hope.

Jason goes on to talk about the importance feeling your feelings, no matter how ugly they are. Then you give them to the Lord. It reminds me of Jacob wrestling with the angel of the Lord until morning, saying he wouldn’t let go until he received a blessing. It reminds me of Jesus in the garden of Gethsemane crying out to God to take the cup from him if at all possible and then saying the all important words, “Not my will, but Yours be done.” God doesn’t want us to stay in a place of grieving or ugly feelings, not because He can’t handle them or because he gets sick of hearing us cry out, but because He wants to heal us. He wants to bring us to a place of peace and assurance that He is looking out for your prodigal(s). And that He cares about our feelings.

We are confident that God is able to orchestrate

everything to work toward something good

and beautiful when we love Him and accept His

invitation to live according to His plan.

Romans 8:28 (The Voice)

I liked the way this translation puts it. God is orchestrating everything. He doesn’t waste anything. Not the difficult times, not the failures, not the pain, and not the good things that may be overlooked. He is orchestrating it to work toward something good and beautiful. Our part is to love Him and accept His invitation to live according to His plan rather than our plan. God’s will be done, not our own. The Weymouth New Testament says, “…all things are working together for good…” present tense! The NLT says, “….God causes everything….” Showing us that God does the causing, and The Berean Study Bible says, “…God works all things together for the good…” letting us see that God takes all the things in our life mixed together and turns them into something good. Nothing is wasted! Halelujah!

I am attaching the whole article which is an interview with Jason Gray about his song and a link to hear the song, along with another song by the same name from Elevation worship. Enjoy!

Nothing Is Wasted by Elevation Worship

You know my every need
You see my poverty
You are enough for me, Jesus
You gave the blind man sight
You raised the dead to life
You've done the same for me, Jesus

You are loving, You are wise
There is nothing in my life You cannot revive
You are loving, You are wise
There is nothing too hard for our God

Your word inside of me
My strength, my everything
My hope will always be Jesus
Your breath inside my lungs
You're worthy of my trust
You will forever be Jesus

You are loving, You are wise
There is nothing in my life You cannot revive
You are loving, You are wise
There is nothing too hard for our God

Nothing is wasted
You work all things for good
Nothing is wasted
Your promise remains
Forever You reign

Nothing is wasted
You work all things for good
Nothing is wasted
Your promise remains
Forever You reign

Your promise remains
Forever You reign

You are loving, You are wise
There is nothing in my life You cannot revive
You are loving, You are wise
There is nothing too hard for our God

Nothing is wasted
You work all things for good
Nothing is wasted
Your promise remains
Forever You reign

Your promise remains
Forever You reign
Your promise remains
Forever You reign
