Grace Wins Every Time

March 10, 2016

And God is able to make all grace abound to you…

2 Corinthians 9:8

Here are some of the words to Matthew West’s new song, Grace Wins:

There’s a war between guilt and grace

And they’re fighting for a sacred space

But I’m living proof

Grace wins every time

First of all, I am living proof that grace wins. The Bible is full of stories where grace wins. The prodigal son, the woman at the well, Zacchaeus, all the people Jesus healed, the thief on the cross, Peter after he denied Jesus, and the list goes on. God is in the grace business.

In some ways, grace has been a hard concept for me to grasp. It’s like I recognize it when God or someone points it out, but to define it has been somewhat elusive. Yet God, in His mercy and wisdom has been showing it to me over and over again in the last couple of years. He will whisper to my heart… “Did you see that? That was grace.” Now I am starting to recognize it on my own.

Our prodigals/King’s Kids will be the beneficiaries of God’s grace when they return. God in His love and mercy will wrap His loving arms around them and say “Welcome home, my child. Now let’s have a party!” There will be no guilt trip or having to earn His favor first. The stories in the Bible are proof. The stories in my own life and in the testimonies of others are proof. Grace wins every time!

I think of the jailor in Acts 16. Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns of praise to God around midnight and the other prisoners were listening. Yet the jailor was asleep. Suddenly there was a massive earthquake and the prison doors flew open and the chains of every prisoner fell off. This is what the jailor woke up to. God was orchestrating this whole scenario to bring the jailor to faith in Jesus. The jailor was sure they had all escaped but when he found out they were all still there, he was moved. His heart was receptive to the gospel. We don’t know what grace plan God has for each of our children, but we can know He has one. We can know grace wins every time.

So let us come boldly before the throne of grace…

Hebrews 4:16

Let us come boldly and ask God to have mercy on them and reveal Himself to them. That in His grace, He would pour out His love on them; He would open their minds and hearts like He did so many times in the Bible. Sometimes He did it by miracles of healing or opening prison doors, and sometimes He did it by opening a mind when they are presented with truth like the woman at the well.

For God, who said, “Let there be light in the darkness,” has made his light shine in our

hearts so we could know the glory of God that is seen in the face of Jesus Christ.

2 Corinthians 4:6 NLT

GRACE WINS EVERY TIME!!
