Seeing the Lord’s Goodness

November 19, 2015

I am still confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the

living; Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.

Psalm 27:13-14

In this Psalm, David mixes his not so ideal reality with his real sense of confidence in the Lord … “When evil people come to devour me, when my enemies and foes attack me…though a mighty army surrounds me…even if I am attacked” (v.2-3) are his reality, but his response is not fear or apathy or anger.  His response is, “The Lord is my light and salvation—why should I be afraid? The Lord is my fortress, protecting me from danger, so why should I tremble?... they will stumble and fall…my heart will not be afraid…I will remain confident.” (v. 1-3)

What was David’s secret? How can we live with this same sense of confidence when we are dealing with our own not so ideal realities?

The one thing I ask of the Lord---the thing I seek most—is to live in the house of the

Lord all the days of my life, delighting in the Lord’s perfections and meditating in his Temple.

Psalm 27:4 NLT

This verse gives us the secret. ..living in the Lord’s presence all the time. I have been reading Jesus Calling every day this year. It’s one of the themes running through the whole book. Jesus speaks of this often. I am definitely aware of how this is a journey and how easy it is to lose that awareness when I let my mind move to the future rather than stay in the present where Jesus is. Today He said “Leave outcomes to Me. Live in the now, concentrate on staying in step with Me.”

I started thinking about our own Kings kids and how it’s easy to let our minds move into the future and sometimes get stuck there. That’s where worry or fear or discouragement live. We don’t want to live there. Jesus is in the present. So we need to live in the present with Him. We will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. We can remain confident. We are waiting for the Lord’s instruction, timing and priorities.

Hear me as I pray, O Lord. Be merciful and answer me! My heart has heard you

say, “Come and talk with me.” And my heart responds, “Lord, I am coming.”

Psalm 27:7 NLT
