We Have This Hope

We have this hope as an anchor for the

soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner

sanctuary behind the curtain, where Jesus, who

went before us, has entered on our behalf.

Hebrews 6:19

An anchor is an image of stability and safety. When we have hope, we feel secure. We enter into the Most Holy Place with confidence. We approach the Throne of Grace without fear. We plead our case to the One who loves us, has gone before us, and is eagerly waiting to spend time with us.

When the Israelites were wandering through the desert, the tabernacle was the place where God resided and met with His people. The tabernacle was made up of the Courtyard, the Holy Place and the Most Holy Place (or the Holy of Holies). The people could go into the courtyard to worship and offer sacrifices, but only the priests could enter the Holy Place. They were appointed and set aside to represent the people before God. Within the Holy Place, there was an inner room called the Most Holy Place. There was a thick veil that separated the Holy Place from the Most Holy Place. The Most Holy Place is where God dwelled. The veil separated man from God because God is too pure to look at evil (Habakkuk 1:13). The priests only entered this place once a year on the Day of Atonement. They brought in blood with them to make atonement for sins (Hebrews 9:7).

When Jesus died, the veil was torn from top to bottom. This is good news for the believer. Believers are priests and Jesus Christ is our High Priest. He made a sacrifice once for all to cover sin. As priests we offer sacrifices to God such as praise, worship, service, intercession, renewing our mind. We offer ourselves as living sacrifices (Romans 12:1); we let Him transform us into the person He has created us to be, little by little; from glory to glory (2 Corinthians 3:18). Because of Christ’s once for all sacrifice, the veil was torn and we can now enter the Most Holy Place without fear. We are seen as perfect in God’s sight because He sees us through Christ, our High Priest.

So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious

God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find

grace to help us when we need it most.

Hebrews 4:16 NLT

So, can you see how the veil being torn is like an anchor for our souls; a source of hope and comfort and security? God invites us to come to His throne and ask for mercy and grace and help in our time of need. As we pray for our prodigals, we need His strength; we need His grace; we need His help. We need what only He can give. We need the hope that only He can provide. So go boldly because He is waiting.

Dear Child,

I always look forward to seeing you here in My Throne Room. Where once the veil separated you from Me, it has now been torn in two opening the way to enter My presence anytime you want. Jesus did this for you when He died on the cross and defeated sin and death. He did this out of love and I did this because of My love for you. No more animal sacrifices. No more grain offerings. Your sacrifices and offerings are spiritual in nature: when you love Me and others by praying for them and telling them about Me; when you give of yourself and your time and talent, when you give of your finances; when you seek to please Me in everything you do, when you surrender your will to Me and wait to find out what I want. My sheep know My voice and follow Me. I see the end from the beginning. I am not bound by time. Just as you can look down on a huge ant hill and see the whole thing, from one end to other, I look down on time and see it from one end to the other. I can choose to do whatever I want to do at any point. And because I love you and I love _______, I will always do what is right and good. So, sing from your heart, “I have this hope” because that is what I am giving you right now as you trust in Me.

Love, Papa

As I walk this great unknown Questions come and questions go Was there purpose for the pain Did I cry these tears in vain I don’t wanna live in fear I wanna trust that You are near Trust Your grace can be seen In both triumph and tragedy

I have this hope In the depth of my soul In the flood or the fire You’re with me and You won’t let go

But sometimes my faith feels thin Like the night will never end Will You catch every tear Or will You just leave me here

So whatever happens, I will not be afraid ‘Cause You are closer than this breath that I take You calm the storm when I hear You call my name I still believe that one day I’ll see Your face

In the flood or the fire You are with me and You won’t let go In the flood or the fire You are with me and You won’t let go
