Anytime a heart turns from darkness to light; anytime temptation comes and someone stands to fight; anytime somebody lives to serve and not be served—we know that God is on the move! (1st verse from the song God is on the Move by 7th Time Down)

Jesus had just healed a man on the Sabbath. It was forbidden to work on the Sabbath so the Jewish leaders confronted Jesus. Jesus told them it was alright for Him to work because He was God’s Son. Even the Jews agreed that it was alright for God to work on the Sabbath in giving or taking away life. But the Jewish leaders were not okay with Jesus claiming to be equal to God. But this didn’t deter Jesus. He said He could only do what He saw the Father doing. He saw the Father bringing healing to this man, so He healed him.

God is always at work. We don’t think much about what day God does something…we understand that He is always working and can do it anytime He chooses. But we often don’t perceive what He is doing. Sometimes it has to be enough to know that since He tells us He is always working and He is incapable of lying, then it has to be true. We have to rest in that promise.

Consider the following:

The Lord replied, “Look around at the nations; look and be amazed! For I am doing

something in your own day, something you wouldn’t believe even if someone told

you about it. I am raising up the Babylonians, a cruel and violent people.

Habakkuk 1:5-6 (NLT)

God was using the Babylonians, an unlikely people, for His own purposes to bring about justice. Habakkuk was complaining because He didn’t perceive God’s methods for accomplishing His will. We often don’t perceive God’s methods because they are unlikely in our minds. We don’t understand what He is doing and it seems like He isn’t doing anything! In Habakkuk, we see that God was doing something. God is always at work!

“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts. The rain and snow come down from the heavens and stay on the ground to water the earth. They cause the grain to grow, producing seed for the farmer and bread for the hungry. It is the same with my word. I send it out and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it.”

Isaiah 55:8-11

God uses what looks like nothing to accomplish something. If we didn’t know and understand the process of growing, we would question God’s methods of growing crops. Why doesn’t He just produce it? Why does it need rain and sun and time? That’s just it! We don’t understand and often don’t appreciate God’s methods. Since His ways and thoughts are higher than ours and beyond our understanding or imagination, we must focus on what we do know about God. He is good and He loves us! He isn’t willing that any perish. He loves to move on behalf of our prayers and He gives us what we ask for in His name. He is always at work! And sometimes it just takes time to see the answer. So proclaim it…God is on the Move…Hallelujah!
