Psalm 16:8

David wrote this. We don’t know when, but we do know that David went through some pretty trying times. He was on the run from Saul for a long time…I read it was probably around eight years. It could have been during this time. Or maybe it was when his men were plotting to kill him because they blamed him for their wives and children being taken captive. David’s two wives had also been captured. 1 Samuel 30:6 tells us that David was greatly distressed because the men were talking about stoning him, but he didn’t give in to it. Instead he found strength in the Lord. When we find strength in the Lord, we will not be shaken. When we keep the Lord always before us, we will not be shaken.

Of course, this can apply to every part of our lives. This includes the times when we feel overwhelmed by our prodigal’s circumstances or we don’t see how it will ever change. Or the times when we just want to fix it and we are helpless. Or what about when they hurt us by the things they say or do? Sometimes we just have to trust that God knows what He’s doing. We have to keep Him before us and not let the doubts or fears or worries take root or even have a place. And when we do give in to “stinkin thinkin” and then become aware of it, we have to stop and get back on track. Of course we will fail at times, but God says He understands our weaknesses. His mercies are new every morning; great is His faithfulness (Lamentations 3:23-23).

God knows our every longing; He hears each prayer we say. Nothing can separate us from His love. These are truths that we can remind ourselves of and strengthen ourselves in the Lord. More than anything, God desires a relationship with us. Focus on that…keeping Him ever before you. Then you will find the strength to face each day and each struggle and each worry without giving in it. God will be right there with you. As you take Him with you throughout your day, you will not be shaken. As you lift up our King’s kids, faith will rise up in you.

I say to myself, “The Lord is my inheritance; therefore I will hope in him!” The

Lord is good to those who depend on him, to those who search for him.

So it is good to wait quietly for salvation from the Lord.
