The Ones Whom I Rescued
Remember that you were once slaves in Egypt, but the Lord your God
brought you out with his strong hand and powerful arm…
Deuteronomy 5:15
This is the way I see my son…as rescued. Back in Exodus 3, God comes to Moses and tells him of his plan to rescue His people. This was during a period of Egyptian strength. God did not sneak His people out of Egypt, He led them out with His mighty arm. That same power is at work in our lives and in the lives of those He rescues. Nothing can hold Him back. When the time is right, He will act and it will be decisive. I think He wants us to picture that day and hold on to it. He wants us to look ahead to the day when we are saying, “Remember that you once had gone astray, but God rescued You with His strong hand and powerful arm.”
First the people only had the promise…
Therefore say to the people of Israel: I am the Lord. I will free you from oppression and will rescue you from your slavery in Egypt. I will redeem you with a powerful arm and great acts of judgement.
Exodus 6:6
Right now we only have the promises…from Scripture and any personal words He has spoken to you… I will search for my lost ones who strayed away, and I will bring
them safely home again. I will bandage the injured and strengthen the weak.
Ezekiel 34:16
If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them gets lost, what will he do? Won’t he
leave the ninety-nine others in the wilderness and go to search for the one that is lost until he finds it? And when he has found it, he will joyfully carry it home on his shoulders.
Luke 15:4-5
Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one. Won’t she light a lamp and sweep the entire house and search carefully until she finds it? AND WHEN SHE FINDS IT…
Luke 15:8-9
For the Son of Man came to seek and save those who were lost.
Luke 19:10
We see in Exodus and Deuteronomy how God kept His promise to rescue the Israelites, and we know He hasn’t changed. Therefore, we look forward to the day when we will say, “Remember when God rescued you, my child with His strong hand and His powerful arm.”
